2025 Junior Season

2025 Junior Season

IHSA

Junior Parents and Players,

We are delighted to share that our Junior Season is ready to kick off this week (Thursday 13th March).

As per usual, we will start with a few sessions of training instead of games, to help settle everyone in and align the teams as best as we can.
  • Training x 3 sessions -Thursday 13th March, Sunday 16th March, and Thursday 20th March
  • Regular season games - From Sunday 23rd March.
The season is currently scheduled for 20 active weeks with no games/training in school holidays.
  • We will revisit school holiday activities when we have registered juniors and can speak to all parents and coaches to see what will work best for the majority.
  • Finals will be held in late August.
  • We are considering a short Spring Season of Ice Hockey after the regular season, where we could consider playing around with the age groups etc. Stay tuned for more information about that later in the year.
A draft schedule will be posted on ESportsDesk (Ice Hockey South Australia - Powered By esportsdesk.com) and will also be shared on our socials. Our approach is to offer as much hockey as we can per division for around $850 as season fees (up $150 on 2024) to be paid in instalments.

This is on top of your IHA (Ice Hockey Australia) and IHSA (Ice Hockey South Australia) membership fees, (See registration links and pricing below).   Some changes from 2024:
  1. When you look at the schedule, you will see a lot of optional ice - we are going to offer this to each age group as an additional option, and if it becomes cost effective for players then we will book it and run it for the season.
  2. The Junior games are not as early in the morning but are still Sunday mornings, with base trainings on a Thursday evening.
    • 13U training times are 5.45pm (1 hr)
    • 17U training times are 7pm (1 hr).
    • 13U & 17U Games will be Sunday mornings at 7.30am and 9am (rotating roster at 1.25 hours each).
    • Novice have the small ice again for training. YAY!  Training times will be 5.45pm (for one hour). Games will be Sunday mornings at 8am (for one hour).
Times listed are “ready to hit the ice” times.
Arrive at least 35 minutes earlier (or earlier if instructed by your coach) to warm up and get dressed ready for your training or game.
  1. We have a lot more State Team training time. This is a significant bonus for those keen to try out and represent SA in the National Tournaments.
The Important Stuff
  1. Leadership
    • We are looking for Team Managers again for 2025 - an EOI has gone out for these roles, and we really need people to step up to help this league run smoothly.
      • If you volunteered last year, we’d be very keen to see you fill these roles again.
      • If you didn’t, now is your chance to step up and help out.
    • We are also needing a Junior Convener - an EOI has gone out for this role also. We have worked hard to spread the load - so this role is not as significant in workload as previous years and will be heavily supported (particularly by the Vice President).

  • Overarching leadership for the Junior League falls with the Vice President and then the IHSA Executive.
  • The important Member Protection Officer and Child Safe Officer role is held by the Vice President.
  1. Day to Day / Game Day support
    • Those who have been around for more than one season know that there is plenty to help with on game days: from scoring to fundraising. As with the above roles, the more we have helping out the less the load is for everyone.
    • Scorers - Team Managers will be tasked with finding (appointing) scorers for each game week for 17U & 13U. A roster system was implemented in 2024, and we may look to do this again in 2025. The scorers box is the best place to watch the games, the heater is on and you get to see the game up close. All training will be provided so don’t be worried about stepping up and giving it a go.
  2. We have tasked our coaches to develop good people / athletes who love the game.
    • A reminder that all players (and parents of underage players) are asked to sign a Player Code of Conduct. Read this carefully, and ensure you know what is expected of you. Play fair, play with good intentions, and most of all go out there with the aim of having a good time with healthy competition.
    • Poor behaviour will be addressed at a coaching level.
    • Behaviour management will come in various forms that are age appropriate; and may include removal of ice time for players involved.
Most of all, we are excited to get everyone back on the ice in our happy place. If you need anything, please reach out to me or one of the exec.

Kind regards,
Sharyn Peterson
