Senior C League - Round 20 - Game 2

Tigers 4 - Blackhawks 0

The Adelaide Tigers scored single goals in the opening two periods and then added two in the third to coast to a 4 - 0 shutout win over the Adelaide Blackhawks in Round 20 Senior C League play Thursday night at Thebarton.

Will Dobud, Jamie Lewis, Nathan Price, and Milad Dakka all scored single goals, while goal keeper Chris Moreton turned aside 14 shots to record his second shut-out of the season, leading the Tigers to victory and improving their season record to 10 - 5 for 30 points and second place on ladder. The loss dropped the Blackhawks to 4 - 11 and 13 points in fourth place.

The win was big for the Tigers and in particular one of their alternate captains, Samara Mihal (pictured). The popular Tigers forward picked up her tenth point of the season when she assisted on Dakka’s goal in the third period.

“Our team is looking really strong heading into the finals” said Mihal after the win over the Tribe. “At the mid season point, our coaches (Lachlan Jennings and Jason Nordin) had a talk with us about what we wanted out of the season and it was unanimous, our focus was on winning.”

“Everyone on the team gets along really well off the ice and I think that is transferring well into how we play together. There’s a lot of positivity on the bench” .

Mihal is one of the Tiger motivators in the dressing room, and her linemate Will Dobud can’t say enough about her contributions to the team.

“Samara is a cementing force on our "Vladi-Day Care" line with Nathan (Price) and I. She has contributed a lot to our success offensively, and rarely is she ever on the ice when we are scored against.”

Team mates selected Mihal to wear the alternate captain “A” on her jersey at the beginning of the season because of her positive influence in the locker room. “Samara leads our pre-game training's and helps us to ‘get a lather on’, before we hit the ice. It’s been important for us.” said Dobud.

The Tigers next Senior C League game is this Sunday 3 September, Fathers Day in Australia, and Samara can’t think of a better gift to her hockey hero dad Vladimir, than to play hard and win her next game when the Tigers faceoff against the Falcons in a 5:30 pm game.

Vlad Mihal (pictured) is a Legend of the Game in Australia, having won several A Grade scoring crowns and Premierships with the powerful Tigers teams in the 1980’s and 90’s. He has also been a member of three Goodall Cup winning state teams, and also played on the World Championship Australian national team in 1986 and again in 1987. He grew up in his native Slovakia where he had a notable career playing alongside reputable players such as NHL Legends, Marion, Peter, and Anton Stastny.

He continues to run the Tiger's Senior C League training's, and is always close by during games.

“My dad is my biggest influence, and the reason why I wanted to play hockey for the Tigers. He is always there to give words of wisdom before and after games.”

“Sometimes he’ll lightheartedly tell the team”, ‘ if you lose I’m not coming to watch your games anymore.’ “Then he looks at me and says” ‘Sammy, if you play bad, we change your last name.’

The Tigers roar as they step onto the ice.
