FALCONS SCORE FOUR GOALS IN FINAL PERIOD TO BEAT HAWKS

August 23, 2017

Senior C  League -  Round 8 - Game 2

Falcons 6 - Blackhawks 2

Four unanswered goals in the final period lifted the Adelaide Falcons to a well-deserved 6 - 2 win over the Adelaide Blackhawks in Senior C League action last Wednesday at the Ice Arena.

The game was a replay of a Round 8 game which was suspended back in May due to poor ice conditions.

Dan Waterman (pictured) and Christian Murdoch both scored three goals to lead the Falcons to the win. Neil Collier and Dylan Klose replied for the Tribe.

Waterman put Big Blue on the scoreboard near the 14:00 minute mark in the opening period, giving the Falcons a one goal lead heading into the first break.

The Hawks  then replied with both of their goals before the halfway mark in the second frame to jump into the lead, before Murdoch tied the game toward the end of the second.

"It was a big win, definitely the highlight of my season and probably for the whole team.” echoed an elated Waterman following the win.

"We did exactly what the coach (Steve Moeller) had been saying all season, for us to play our  positions and play with intensity”.

Waterman’s three goals gives him a total of six for the season, “ I've been in a scoring drought the last few games, so its good to break through”.

Murdoch’s first of the night came with 8:00 minutes left in the middle period tied the game and set the stage for an exciting third period.

In the final period the Falcons took control outshooting the Hawks 20 - 5, with Murdoch and Waterman both scoring two goals each to complete their hat tricks and to give the Falcons the win.

While the win won’t help the Falcons advance in to the finals round, it did improve their season record to 2 - 11 - 0 - 0 for 6 points and fifth spot on the ladder. The Hawks drop to 4 - 9 - 0 - 1 for 13 points and fourth place in the standings.

The Falcons outshot the Hawks 36 - 17 with Nick Siebert making 11 saves in the loss for the Hawks, while Lachlan Johnson stopped 35 saves to get the win in goal for the Falcons.

Both clubs will be back in Senior C League action this Sunday 27 August, with the Tigers meeting the Falcons at 6:45pm, and then the Jokers facing off with the Blackhawks at 8:15pm.
