FALCONS GO ON SCORING FRENZY AGAINST BLACKHAWKS
Premier League - Round 18 - Game 2
Falcons 16 - Blackhawks 5
The Adelaide Falcons went on a scoring frenzy in Premier League action last week, blasting the Adelaide Blackhawks 16 - 5 in Round 18 action at the Ice Arena.
The Falcons were led by trigger men Ales Kratoska ( 4 goals, 3 assists), and Cameron Critchlow (4 goals, 2 assists) both shooting 4 goals, with Jayson James (pictured), and Dylan Pope adding two goals, and singles going to Cole MacMillan (4 assists), Andrew Zolotarev, Ambrose Foster, and Quenton Tombleson.
Matt Wegener (4 assists), Henry Schiansky (3 assists), and James adding 3 assists to his two goal night, also were big contributors on the score sheet.
Mark Williams led the Hawks with two goals, with single goals coming off the sticks of Ivan Lauton (1 goal, 2 assists), Mathew Lothian, and Theodore Fabijan. Tyson Boyd chipped in with three assists.
The Falcons were in command all throughout the match leading 5-1 after the first period, then 11 - 3 after two. Big Blue out-shot the Tribe 39 - 23 with Ian Hunter stopping 17 shots to get the win, while Glen Forbes White stopped 23 shots in the loss for the Hawks.
The loss ended the Blackhawks season as they finished with a season record of 4 - 14. There were points in the season when it appeared the Hawks may well be a finals contender, as in Round 8 when they upset the first place Adelaide Redwings 3 - 2. The additions of AIHL goalie Peter King, Adrenaline import star Casey Babineau, former AIHL star Josh Harding, and then young import Ivan Lauton toward the end of the season, gave the Hawks hope, but some costly losses toward the end of the minor round schedule eliminated them from finals contention.
The victory improved the Falcons season record to 8 - 8 - 1 - 0 and second place in the four club division. The Falcons still have one round to complete the Premier League schedule, a makeup game (from a cancelled Round 8 game back in May) against the third place Tigers on Wednesday 23 August at 7:30pm.
Both the Tigers and Falcons will then meet in the opening game of the Best of Three Premier League Semi Final Series, which starts Wednesday 30 August in a 7:45pm start.
