TIGERS CLINCH FINALS BERTH WITH WIN OVER BLACKHAWKS

August 9, 2017

Premier League – Round 17 - Game 1

Tigers 6 - Blackhawks 5

The Adelaide Tigers clinched the third Premier League finals spot with a 6 - 5 win over the Adelaide Blackhawks in Round 17 action last week at Thebarton.

The win improved the Tigers season mark to 7 - 9 for 21 points, nine points ahead of the Blackhawks, who with only one game remaining in the minor round have been eliminated from the post season playoffs.

Gil Krnac lead the Tigers with two goals and an assist, while Glen Foll, Jamie Holland, Ryan Foll, and James Keane (pictured) all added singles.

Josh Harding, and Tyson Boyd each scored two goals for the Tribe, with Mark Williams adding a single tally to round out the offense.

The Tigers looked like running away with the game early when they jumped out to a four goal lead in the opening 20 minutes, but the Blackhawks bounced back with three consecutive goals in the middle period to pull to within one goal.

Krnac fired the fifth Tigers goal late in the middle period to send them to the second intermission leading by a two.

The Hawks made things interesting late in the third when Williams scored to pull to within one goal with under three minutes left to play.  That goal was then quickly washed out when Keane scored an unassisted marker with 2:13  left to regain the two goal insurance.

The Hawks still were not done however with Boyd converting a pass from Ivan Lauton and Mathew Lothian to make it 6 - 5, but from there they were unable to score the equaliser.

The Tigers outshot the Blackhawks 37 - 36, with Rusty Brewer stopping 31 of 36 shots to earn the win for the Gold n’ Black. Glen Forbes-White turned aside 29 shots in the loss for the Tribe.

Both sides will be back in Premier League Round 18 action this Wednesday 16 August when the Falcons meet the Blackhawks in the early 7:30pm game, with the Tigers facing off with the Minor Premiers Adelaide Redwings in the late 9:30pm match.
