Premier League - Round 14 Game 1
Falcons 13 - Tigers 6
The Adelaide Falcons exploded for eight goals in the second period, blowing the Adelaide Tigers out of the water in a 13 - 6 win in Premier League action last week at Thebarton.
Joe Rezek , Cameron Critchlow, and Ales Kratoska all fired hat tricks to lead the Falcons onslaught, while Cole MacMillan shot a pair and Andrew Zolotarev, and Matt Wegener rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
Ryan Foll, continued his impressive season scoring three times for the Tigers, with Jamie Holland adding two, and James Keene one to complete the Gold n' Black offensive stats.
The win leveled out Big Blue’s season record to 6 - 6 - 1 - 0 for 20 points and second place, five points ahead of the third place Tigers and eight in front of the fourth place Blackhawks as the three clubs battle for the final two playoff spots.
Holland, Foll and Keene each scored in the first period as the Tigers went to the first intermission with a 3 - 1 lead, but then the Falcons came out firing in the middle period, scoring eight times, and the momentum swung.
The Falcons out-shot the Tigers 51 - 28 with Seb Woodlands stopping 22 shots to earn the win for the Falcons, while Rusty Brewer blocked 38 in the loss for the Tigers.
Kratoska’s hat trick against the Tigers is indicative of his star studded seasons for both the Falcons in the IHSA Premier League, and with the Adelaide Adrenaline in the Australian Ice Hockey League. The 22 year old Czech Republic native was recruited by ex-pat Czech and Falcons team mate Joe Rezek, and he's made a big impact since arriving in Australia.
Ales has played with several players who have gone on to play with the Czech National Team and professional, following stints with Letnany in the Czech U16 and U18 divisions, then Ceske Budejovice in U18, and U20, before moving on to play for Olomouc, and Hradec Kralove in the U20 (Junior division). He played the last two seasons (2015, and 2016) in the Czech Division 2 and 3 Leagues with Litomerice and Tabor respectively.
A skilled skater, Kratoska reads the play well, and brings a style based on honed skills, which is typical of your experienced European hockey player. In just 6 games with the Falcons, the “Czech Triggerman” has scored 12 goals and added 9 assists for 21 points, averaging 3.5 points per game. In the national league Kratoska has been a hand full for the opposing teams, netting 6 goals and adding 6 assists for 12 points in just eight games for the Adrenaline.
Kratoska and the Falcons will be waiting in anticipation for their next match against the first place Adelaide Redwings, the defending two time premiers. Both teams will face off next in the early 7:45pm match on Thursday 26th July, a game many followers feel could be a preview of this seasons’ Premier League Grand Final Series.
