WINGS CONTINUE TORRID SCORING PACE IN VICTORY OVER THE TIGERS

June 27, 2017

Premier League - Round 13 Game 1

Redwings 13 - Tigers 3

The Adelaide Redwings continue to pile on the offense in the IHSA Premier League as indicated in their recent 13-3 win over the Adelaide Tigers in Round 13 action at Thebarton recently.

The Wings are scoring at a rate of almost 9 goals per game and boast the top three scorers in the individual scoring stats. The win over the Tigers improved their record to 10 - 2 - 0 - 1 for 31 points and first place on the four team ladder.

Dave Gal led the Wings scoring attack potting three goals to add to his league leading points total. Aaron Grubb,  Tyler Leeming, and Trevor Walsh all added two goals each, with Marcel McGuiness, Adam Wise, and Max Rivers all chipping in with single markers.

Andrew Stapleton, James Keene, and Kayne Fedor replied with single goals each for the Tigers.

“The boys have been gelling really well together this seasons” said young star winger Aaron Grubb. “We have a good mix of players, and I’ve been playing along side Marcel McGuiness and Jake Riley most of the year and that has helped my game”

“We also have a lot of the experienced players putting up the points when needed. We’re playing good hockey but we need to maintain the pace if we’re going to bring home the cup.”

Last year Grubb, 18, played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League in Ontario Canada, where he played 37 games with both the Lincoln Mavericks (who eventually folded) and then he was picked up by the Tottenham Steam. He also stared with the Adelaide Generals in their Australian Junior Hockey League Championship victory. In 2016 Grubb played 7 games in the top IHSA division with the Adelaide Falcons.

“The season I spent playing in the GMHL Jr. A League was the best experience for me. The play was a lot more physical and faster than what I had been previously used to playing. I think it’s every young aspiring Australian hockey players dream to play overseas, and I have my family to thank for giving me the opportunity to do so”

The Wings out shot the Tigers 49 - 24 with Andrew Glass stopping 21 shots for Wings, while Sam O’Neill blocked 36 shots for the Tigers.
