HAWKS RUN INTO HOT GOALIE BUT STILL MANAGE WIN OVER JOKERS

The Adelaide Blackhawks scored two goals within two minutes of each other in the first period, but then had to battle their way to a 4-2 win over a rejuvenated Adelaide Jokers squad in Round 12 A League action recently at Thebarton.
Ted Fabijan and Paul Joyce opened the scoring in the first period but despite many scoring chances the Hawks ran into a hot young goalie in the Senior League debut of Jeremy Friederich who managed to keep the score close with many brilliant saves.
Joyce finished with two goals, with Troy Collins scoring a late fourth goal for the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks improved their A League record to 5-4-0-0 for 15 points and fourth place, while the Jokers drop to 1-7-1-0 for 5 points at the bottom of the ladder.
Jokers Head Coach Sami Mantere introduced some bright new prospects from their junior ranks as the Jokers make a last dash effort to climb out of the basement and back into the running for the top three finals spots on the ladder.
Andrew Chen scored for the Jokers in his debut Senior League appearance, while Damon Hoad also added a single tally.
The Tribe led 2-0 and 3-2 after the opening two periods, setting the stage for an exciting third period, but Collins’ goal with just under three minutes to play sealed the win for the Blackhawks.
Friederich made several stops in blocking 37 of 41 shots in the Jokers goal. Charlie Wragg also made some key saves for the Tribe stopping 16 of 18 to earn the win.
