Senior C League - Round 10 Game 2

Redwings 9 - Falcons 0

Cameron Hapgood fired three goals, and David Bianchi added a pair as the Adelaide Redwings shut out the Adelaide Falcons 7 - 0 in Senior C League action last week at Thebarton.

The win improves the Wings’ Senior C League record to 6 - 1 for first place in the C League with 18 points. The loss dropped the Falcons record to 1 - 6.

Jarred Schenscher, Carl Callicchico, Chris Lee, and Josh Hodge all added single goals to round out the scoring for the front running Wings.

Hapgood, is in his rookie year with the Wings and plays on a line with Bianchi and Chris Rondeau, and the trio have worked well together.

“Both Chris and David are Alternative Captains for the team and they show great leadership from start to finish.” says Hapgood.

“The win was exactly what our team needed following our first loss of the season, against the Tigers in the last round. Hayden (Crafter), set the standards he wanted to see in the Falcons game, and the first line out was set the uphold that standard.” he added

Hapgood joins the Wings after a couple of seasons playing in the local C Grade Summer competition. He has an extensive ice hockey background that extends back to when he commenced playing back in his childhood home of Newcastle, N.S.W at the age of 13. He competed with the Newcastle Northstars Bantam team, travelling state wide playing in the N.S.W Bantam competition. A few years later, he joined the army in 2009, putting his hockey days on hold until a few years ago while living here in Adelaide.

“It’s great to be back playing, and I’m enjoying every minute being out on the ice with the team”.

My motivation for the 3 goals came from our poor performance in the third period the last game, (a 3-2 loss to the Tigers - 18 May). We needed to remain as the dominate team in the grade despite our lose, so from the moment the puck hit the ice we were ready to put points on the board.

David (Bianchi) showed his eagerness in the first 3 minutes of game play. In the second period we upped the tempo and put away another five goals to give us a six goal advantage. We scored another three in the third period and Russell (King) our goalie shut them out the rest of the way.”

Russell King stopped 11 shots to record his third shutout of the season. King has allowed only four goals in five games and has 93.22 percent save percentage. Lachlan Johnson was much busier at the Falcons end stopping 25 of 34 shots.
