FALCONS SCORE THREE IN FINAL PERIOD FOR FIRST WIN

June 2, 2017

Senior C League - Round 9 Game 1

Falcons 5 - Tigers 3

The Adelaide Falcons scored three unanswered goals in the third period to come from behind and win their first game of the season, beating  the Adelaide Tigers 5 - 3 in Senior C League play last weekend at the Ice Arena.

Trailing 3 - 2 going into the final period, the Falcons’ Isaac Miller, Leigh Hooper, and Heath Tamme scored in the third frame to seal the win. Miller scored earlier in the second period, and Dan Waterman also replied with a single tally back in the opening period to complete the scoring for the Falcons.

Will Dobud led the Tigers with two goals, while Jordan Green added a single marker.

The victory was the first of the C League season for the Steve Moeller coached Falcons, and puts them up on the ladder board with 3 points, and in a tie with the Blackhawks for the final finals position.

“The last few games we’ve played some good hockey for a couple of periods and then we tend to drop off and the opposition take advantage of that lapse in our play” said Tamme after the win.

“We’ve shown in this win over the Tigers that if we can put together three solid periods, then we can match it with the best. We’ve come a long way since the start of the season and now we’re playing some good team hockey.”

Tamme started playing ice hockey up on the Gold Coast several years back now, but then moved to Adelaide with his partner for the birth of their first girl. He explained that it didn’t take long to get involved, joining the Redwings in the C Grade competition three years back, and then he played for the Storm and then the Bombers, before getting the call to join the Falcons.

“I wasn’t expecting to get a call to play in the winter league, but then I got a call from Steve (Moeller) the Falcons’ President, and I was sort of shocked but excited by the challenge ahead” he said

"I’ve really enjoyed this first half of the season playing for a great club and playing with the roster the club has put together. I'm excited about where we are going as a team and am looking forward to  the rest of the season.”

The Falcons’ Dale Glover stopped 13 of 16 shots to register the win, with Chris Moreton turning aside 24 of 29 shots in his direction in the Tigers end.

The Falcons are idle in the Senior C League until the 6 July when they meet the Jokers in a Thursday evening clash.
