The Adelaide Tigers climbed back into a first place tie in the Senior A League division following a convincing 7-1 win over the Adelaide Jokers last week at Thebarton.
Devan Seamans and Eric Lien both fired two goals each to lead the Black n’ Gold to victory, with Jason Nordin, Ryan O’Handley, and Stu Henly adding singles.
Andrew Smith converted a pass from Max Zobel in the first period for the Jokers only goal.
The Tigers led 2 - 1 and then 4 - 1 after the opening two periods, with the win improving the Tigers record to 5 - 2 - 0 - 1 and putting them at the top of their Senior A League ladder with 16 points, and in a tie with the Redwings, who won their Round 9 game over the Falcons.
In addition to scoring his first goal of the season, Henly added three assists against the Jokers. The Tigers’ winger currently has 11 points (1 goal and 10 assists) and is leading the Senior A League points scoring race.
“Heading into the game against the Jokers we were coming off a disappointing 6-3 loss to the Blackhawks where we were badly outplayed at times. We all had a chat about the loss to the Hawks after the game, and we were determined to turn things around in our next outing” said Henly after the win.
"Our coaches had the lines dialled in for the Jokers game. It was great playing with two veteran guys such as Eric (Lien) and Ryan (O’Handley). Both move the puck well and put in the work in our end to help get the offence started. Our line was lucky enough to put up a few points together.” continued Henly.
“We’re pretty happy with our progression as a team as the season continues. There are a few kinks to work out along the way, but our regular training's are helping with this. We’re focused on pushing for a playoff spot."
"The standard in the Senior A league is definitely high and there have been no easy games. It speaks well of the quality of players each club has that can be committed to this league and still put forth competitive teams in Premier. It’s been a lot of fun.”
The Tigers out shot the Jokers 31 - 22 including a 17 shot third period. Sam O’Neill picked up the win for the Tigers stopping 21 shots, while Mathew Peterson continues to handle the heavy workload stopping 23 shots in the Jokers goal.
The Tigers will return to action in the Senior A League on Sunday 18 June, when they play the Redwings in a battle for first place starting at 7:00pm, with the Blackhawks meeting the Falcons in the late match at 8:30pm.
