REGGIE SCORES THREE TO EARN HIS PLACE IN THE WINGS NEST

Senior A League - Round 9 Game 2

Redwings 10 - Falcons 3

Adelaide Redwings scored four first period goals and from there never looked back in a 10 - 3 win over the Adelaide Falcons.

Redwings’ newcomer Reggie Mattschoss proved to be the big story of the night scoring three goals and adding two assists, as the Big Red Machine improved their record to 5 wins, 1 loss, and 1 overtime shoot out loss for 16 points, and now tied for first place with the Tigers.

Tamir Dunning, Dave Gal, and Aaron Grubb each fired a pair of goals in the win, with veteran Tyson Boundy rounding off the 10 goal night with a single marker.

In an ice hockey rarity Andy Scott scored three unassisted goals for a hat trick, and accounting for all the Falcons scoring.

Jo Phillis registered the win in the Redwings goals, blocking 24 of 27 shots, while Paul Cracknell stopped 16 shots in goal for the Falcons after straining his groin early in the game.

Mattchoss has become a productive member of the Redwings A League unit, having joined the team after playing many years of inline hockey with the Mt. Barker Burners.

“We wanted to get on the board early to put the pressure on the Falcons defence, because they have a lot of offensive players who can put ‘em away” said Mattchoss.

“Dave (Gal) & (Aaron) Grubsy were my line mates and it felt like we had played with each other for a while. I’m looking forward to more games like that as the season progresses, the more ice time we have together the stronger we’ll be.” he said.

Despite coming from the inline game, Mattschoss did play a handful of games on the ice many years ago with the Falcons, but said recent time away from the sport left him anxious to return.

"I spent five years away from hockey altogether because of work commitments, but I decided to come back this year to see what I can do on the ice before I got too old” .

“Our team (Redwings A League) is filled with players who can all step up, and we don’t really rely on one or two stars. As a new player to the club, the “Wings Nest” has made me feel very welcome.”

Reggie and the Wings will be back in action next on Sunday 18 June at 7:00pm when the Wings meet the Adelaide Tigers in a battle for top spot on the A League ladder, followed by the Falcons vs Blackhawks match at 8:30pm.
