IHSA Premier League - Round 9 Game 2

Falcons 8 - Redwings 2

The Adelaide Falcons erupted for five goals in the second period and went on to a resounding 8 - 2 win over the first place Adelaide Redwings in Premier League action last week at Thebarton.

The victory was the second straight win for the Falcons over the Wings and the third consecutive loss for the defending premiers.

Recently recruited Josef Rezek led the Falcons scoring attack with three goals and an assist, while Cameron Critchlow also had four points with two goals and two assists. Ales Kratoska , Cole MacMillan, and Andrew Zolotarev all added singles for Big Blue, who with the victory, improve their record to 3 wins, 4 losses, with 1 overtime shoot-out victory, good enough for 11 points and third place on the ladder.

Joey Rezek back home in the early days!!

Wings captain Trevor Walsh (goal and an assist) and Steve Best replied for the short staffed Wings, who slip to 6 wins, 2 losses, with one overtime shoot out loss, but still sitting in first place 7 points in front of the second place Blackhawks.

The Redwings were without top scoring stars Tyler Leeming (injury), and Dave Gal for the Round 9 game against the Falcons.

Both clubs skated through a close first period with score ending 1 - 1 after the opening frame, but then the Falcons opened the floodgates outscoring the Wings 5 - 1 in the third, including the three goals from Rezek.

“It was a great win over the Redwings” said Rezek following the game “The Falcons have added some new players and are now showing we will be highly competitive”.

Rezek stars for the Adelaide Adrenaline of the Australian Ice Hockey League and joins fellow Adrenaline import Cameron Critchlow, and Kratoska, an exciting import from the Czech Republic in the lineup.

“I think we all bring some good experience to the team and the young players, and the Premier League itself is improving from previous years.” Rezek added.

The Falcons outshot the Wings 45 - 23, including 19 - 7 and 17 - 7 bombardments in the last two periods. Falcons’ goalie Seb Woodlands stopped 21 of 23 shots to get the win, while Andrew Glass was called upon to make some big saves (37 of 45) in the Redwings goal.

Both clubs return to action this Wednesday night 7 June, with the Falcons meeting the Blackhawks in the early 7:45pm clash, while the Wings play the Tigers in a 9:30pm encounter.
