IHSA Senior A League - Round 8 Game 1

Blackhawks 6 - Tigers 3

The Adelaide Blackhawks handed the first place Adelaide Tigers their third Senior A League loss in the last four games, with a convincing 6 - 3 win last Sunday at Thebarton.

Dan Ricciardi (two goals and an assist) and Paul Joyce (two goals and one assist) led the Hawks scoring, lifting the Tribe out of the Senior A basement, one point ahead of the Jokers who were shutout by the Redwings.

Adrian von Eniem, and Chris Stanton each added single goals for the Blackhawks, who improved their season record to 2 wins and 4 losses. The Tigers have played one more game and now stand at 4 wins, 2 losses and one shootout loss.

Simon Jarrad, Wes Pearson, Keith Gilmour replied for the Tigers.

The Tigers led 2 - 1 after the opening period, but that lead changed hands in the second when the Hawks outscored the Gold and Black 4 - 1 to take a two goal lead to the final intermission.

Joyce scored his second of the night, the only goal of the third period, as the Hawks claimed the 6 - 3 win.

“It felt good to be able to help the team win over the Tigers, but with Adam Szuster and Chris Stanton laying off some beautiful passes it really was a team effort” said Ricciardi.

“Everyone played so well against a very tough benchmark outfit like the Tigers. The inclusion of Chris (Stanton), Paul Joyce, and Ryan McClean (from the B League squad) into the team has been a huge reason for the recent turnaround. They’ve added depth and confidence in the line-up.” he added.

"The team continues to improve, and we’re starting to understand each other’s styles, and our Coach (Matty Lothian) keeps his cool and is calm in teaching us more effective offence and defensive tactics.”

The Hawks outshot the Tigers 33 - 25, with Charlie Wragg (22 saves) getting the win for the Hawks, while Sam O’Neill blocked 27 of 33 shots in the Tigers goal.

The Hawks have a bye in the next round but will be back in action Sunday 4 June when they play the Falcons. The Tigers will be back at it again on Thursday 1 June when they meet the Jokers at 8:15pm.
