HAND SCORES TWO AS WINGS BLANK FALCONS

May 20, 2017

IHSA Senior B League - Round 6 Game 2

Redwings 4 - Falcons 0

Dylan Hand scored twice and goal keeper Jo Phillis earned the shutout as the Adelaide Redwings blanked the Adelaide Falcons 4 - 0 in Senior B League action earlier this week at Thebarton.

Thomas Williams and Jarred Lowe also contributed to the scoring with a goal each, as the Redwings improved their B League record to 5 wins and only 1 loss for 15 points and first place on the ladder. The Falcons drop to 1-5 and currently sit in the basement of the four team league.

"We played well against the Falcons,  and after scoring early in the first period we maintained  the pressure on them.” said Hand.

Hand started playing hockey back in 2008, in C-Grade, and after one year in the summer competition he was drafted by the Tigers where he played on the B grade side for a few seasons, before moving to the Redwings. He has worked around hockey for the past number of years, working on ice maintenance at the ice arena, and also coaching C-Grade for 2 years and with the renown Ice Factor program for 3 years.

“ We have a wide span of players from old-timers to player’s right out of bantam, and as the season progresses I feel we’ve started to mesh very well. With the  current range of players we  have in the mix  it gives the team room to adapt to a variety of playing styles, so I feel we’ll continue to  get stronger.”

The goose egg over the Falcons was the second consecutive shutout for the Redwings in the Senior C League following a 5 - 0 win over the Blackhawks (14 May) with Johnny Cousins in goal.

The victory was also the first shut out of the year for Phillis, who has divided her time between the A and B Leagues this season. She currently leads all Senior B League goalies with a 96.15 per cent save percentage, allowing only 1 goal in two games.

The Wings outshot the Falcons 32 - 11 with Falcons goalie Lachlan Johnson kept busy at his end, especially in the final period in which the Wings blitzed their opponents in a 13 - 1 shot barrage.

Both teams will return to Senior B action again on Sunday 28 May when the Redwings host the Tigers in a 3:45pm match, with the Falcons meeting the Blackhawks at 5:15pm.
