TIGERS IN CONTROL IN WIN OVER THE BLACKHAWKS

May 20, 2017

IHSA Senior B League - Round 6 Game 1

Tigers 4 - Blackhawks 0

A lone goal late in the first period was enough for the Adelaide Tigers to secure a victory over the Blackhawks in Senior B League action last week at the Ice Arena.

B.J. Letheby’s goal with less than three minutes left in the first period proved to be the winner as the Tigers shutout the Blackhawks 4 - 0, increasing their second place lead on the Senior B ladder.

Both teams skated through a scoreless second frame, before Laurent Friederich  took a pass from O.P. and Dan Evans  to give the Tigers a two goal lead early in the final period.

Canadian Jeremy Klein then cemented the win with two late goals, as goalkeeper Justin Ruston registered his first shutout of the year.

"It’s always nice to come away with a win and I was lucky enough to get a couple bounces falling my way” said Klein after the win.

Klein is from Windsor Ontario and arrived in Adelaide last year after meeting his Australian partner back in Canada. He played competitive hockey throughout his childhood and in high school and then played in beer leagues and pond hockey in recent years.

“We played well offensively with lots of shots and played well on the defensive side holding the Blackhawks to minimal shots" he added “I think we need to continue to play two way hockey, developing a strong breakout strategy, and the cohesion amongst our lines  is going to be important if we are to remain in contention for the championship”.

The Tigers outshot the Blackhawks 32 - 10, including lopsided 14 - 3 and 12 - 4 margins in the final two periods. Ruston turned aside 10 shots to get the shutout, while Sam Poole was kept busy, stopping 28 of 32 shots in the Hawks net.

Both teams will return to Senior B action again on Sunday 28 May when the Redwings host the Tigers in a 3:45pm match, with the Falcons meeting the Blackhawks at 5:15pm.
