IHSA Premier League - Round 7 Game 2
Redwings 10 Tigers 7
The Adelaide Redwings held off a determined Tigers squad to come away with a 10-7 victory in Premier League play last week at Thebarton.
The Wings carried a 3 - 1 lead into the second period but the Tigers stormed back to win the middle period, and it was a tightly contested game with the Wings holding a 6 - 5 lead after two.
IHSA Premier League leading scorer Steve Best lived up to his family name scoring four goals, and assisting on three others as the Redwings improved their season record to 5 - 0 - 0 - 1 for 19 points and a strangle hold on first place in the four team league, three wins clear of the second place Tigers.
Marcel McGuiness fired three goals and added an assist, while Dave Gal, Adam Wise, and Jake Riley rounded out the scoring for the winners.
Jamie Holland and Gil Krmac led the Tigers scoring with two goals each, with Ryan Foll (1 goal, 3 assists), Andrew Stapleton, and Lachlan Jenning adding single tallies.
Andrew Glass stopped 19 of 26 shots to get the win in the Wings goals, while Rusty Brewer stopped 16 of 26 to record the loss.
The Wings currently have a Premier League best goal differential of plus 38 and defenceman Adam Wise gets some of the credit for anchoring a pretty solid back line for the first place Wings.
Wise is now in his second season with the Wings after playing for the Adelaide Falcons since 2004, where his father Steve is a life member. The younger “Wisey” says he’s satisfied with how the club has gone at this point into the season.
“I’m pretty happy with my play so far this year but it does help having a good bunch of players to play with. All around, we’ve played a solid year so far”, he said late last week.
“We tend to start off slow in the majority of our games but then pull it back in and get the job done. This years’ Premier League is a pretty decent competition. The games are much closer, and hopefully it stays that way for years to come.”
The next Premier League action is this Wednesday 24 May when the Redwings play the Blackhawks at 7:45pm, and then the Tigers face off against the Falcons in the later match starting at 9:30pm.
