FALCONS EXPLOSIVE FIRST PERIOD SINKS THE HAWKS

May 17, 2017

IHSA Premier League - Round 7 Game 1

Falcons 10 Blackhawks 4

The Adelaide Falcons exploded for seven goals in the opening period, enough to sink the Adelaide Blackhawks 10 - 4 in Premier League action last Wednesday at the Ice Arena.

Canadian import Cole MacMillan, (4 goals, and an assist),  and new recruit Josef Rezek, (3 goals, 2 assists) were top scorers for the Falcons, who with the win moved in front of the Blackhawks on the four team ladder.

After an opening goal to the Blackhawks, the Falcons went to town scoring seven goals in the opening period and from there they coasted home with the six goal win.

Ales Kratoska, a 22 year old left winger fresh off the plane from the Czech Republic was next in scoring with two goals and an assist, with local prospect Jordan Geyer adding a single to round out the scoring.

Kratoska played this past season with HC Tabor in the Czech 2nd Division, and as well as boosting the Falcons in the IHSA Premier League, he is expected to see time with the Adelaide Adrenaline in the Australian National League.

Mathew Lothian, Tyson Boyd, Luke Harding, and Casey Babineau replied for the Hawks.

Babineau, a teammate of MacMillan’s at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada, is an import recruit of the Adrenaline, and he was recently signed by the Tribe as they battle it out for a finals position in the local league.

Falcons head coach John Botterill is quietly confident that the Falcons are making the improvements needed to challenge for this years Premiership.

"Over last year and early this year as a club we're happy with our improvement and competitiveness with locals, young players and addition of Cole (MacMillan), but we were still not there in scoring ability to get the consistent wins".

"With recruitment of Cam (Critchlow) and Czechs- Josef  (Rezek)and Ales (Kratoska) we are excited to be in a position to get wins and a run for the Premier Cup. Especially positive and motivating for some of our senior local players who have experienced some of the lows of the previous few seasons." said Falcons Coach Botts.

The Falcons lead 7 - 1, and 9 - 2 after the opening two periods, however the Hawks regrouped after the disastrous first frame and outscored the Falcons in the third period.

Blackhawks goalkeeper Glen Forbes White had a very busy night blocking 37 of 47 shots, while Seb Woodlands turned aside 14 of 18 shots to record the win in the Falcons goal.

The Falcons and Hawks will return to Premier League action this Wednesday 24 May, with the Blackhawks meeting the Redwings in a 7:45pm game, while the Falcons will play the Tigers in the later match starting at 9:30pm.
