VLADI’S DAY CARE FORMULA HELPS TIGERS BEAT FALCONS
IHSA Senior C LEAGUE - Round 4 Game 2
Tigers 6 - Falcons 1
The Adelaide Tigers’ “Vladi Day Care Line” served up a winning formula to down the Falcons 6 - 1 in Senior C League action last week at the Ice Arena.
The exciting line consisting of Samara Mihal, Nathan Price and Will Dobud all contributed to the six goals in last Sundays victory, improving the Tigers record to 3 - 1 and tied for second place with the Jokers on the five team C League ladder.
Dobud, an American from Washington D.C. lead the attack with three goals and two assists, with Price, Ben Lowes, and Bradley Christie adding single markers. Mihal setup the goals to Price and Christie in the second period to record two assists.
The Vladi Day Care nickname is a combination of Vladi, a pun of daddy, after Mihal’s father, Australian Hockey Legend; Vladimir Mihal, and both Price and Dobud are fathers of young children, thus the day care tag.
“Our chemistry is improving. In our last game we blew two 2 goal lead and lost (4 - 3 to the Redwings). We wanted to come out, get a quick lead, hold it, and then grind our way home. It was fortunate that goals kept coming.” said Dobud following the win.
“Our coach Jason (Nordin) has locked in some solid lines and we expect to continue grinding teams down by moving our feet, getting shots on goal, and winning the play along the boards and behind the net. When we skate we reckon we can play with anyone.”
Dobud arrived in Adelaide a few years ago with his Australian wife. He had played hockey about 10 years back in high school back in the states. He grew up in the US Capital city, but he attended a boarding school in Boston. There he rubbed shoulders with notable hockey people such as Chris Bourque (Son of Hall of Famer Ray Bourque), Keith Yandle (Florida Panthers), Zach Bogosian (Buffalo Sabres), and Erika Lawler (Team USA) and Meghan Duggan (Captain of Women’s Team USA).
Three years ago he joined the Penguins in the Summer C Grade League here in Adelaide, and following the most recent summer campaign he was drafted by the Tigers.
The Tigers outshot the Falcons 26 - 21 with both goalies Paul Mills of the Falcons and Chris Moreton of the Tigers making some key saves during the match.
Both teams will hit the ice again in Senior C League play on Sunday 11 May, with the Tigers facing off with the Jokers at 6:15pm, followed by the Blackhawks and Redwings match at 7:45pm.
