COACH HAS SIGHTS ON TOP PRIZE AFTER BLACKHAWKS BEAT FALCONS

April 19, 2017

IHSA Senior C League - Round 4 Game 2

Blackhawks 3 Falcons 1

Adelaide Blackhawks’ Coach Justine Shaw is aiming high this year, after witnessing several promising signs during the Hawks’ 3 - 1 win over the Falcons in Senior C League action last week.

“The Falcons have some key players and they came to play, but we fore-checked and attacked the net well” said Shaw. “We’re beginning to gel as a team, and our main goal is to beat the top teams like the Redwings and the Jokers, and ultimately win the premiership.”

Brad Rowe, Dave Clark, and Richard Walsh scored one each for the Hawks, who picked up their first win of the young season. Daniel Riding replied with the Falcons only goal.

The Blackhawks held 2 - 1 and then 3 - 1 leads after the opening two periods, with both sides battling through a scoreless final frame.

“Brad (Rowe) inspired a lot of confidence in the forwards in the game against the Falcons. Similarly, Nicolas Ruffino helped with gap control and decision making on the D, and our goalie Nick Siebert never fails to impress when we need him to make big saves.” added Shaw.

Both goalies, Siebert for the Blackhawks, and Paul Mills for the Falcons, made several key saves during the contest, with the Hawks outshooting Big Blue 23-17.

The three goals against the Falcons was the first goal scoring of the season for the Tribe, following two shutout losses to the Redwings (1 - 0) and (3 - 0) in early April.

The young coach pointed out that the team will work on several facets of their game at upcoming practices.

“I put strong focus on our defensive game, but we’ll also be focusing on our shooting and offensive aggression at training.” she said.

"Our young drafted players like Dylan Klose are showing great promise and they’re fitting in well with more experienced guys like Billy Vis, Neil Collier, and Christian Knott."

"I have confidence in our work ethic and I’m excited to see what becomes of this season.”

The Blackhawks will play the Jokers in their next Senior C League match at 8:15pm on Sunday 30 April.
