ROOKIE GOALIE SHUTS THE DOOR ON THE FALCONS

Rookie goalkeeper Sam Poole was the big story as the Adelaide Blackhawks shutout the Falcons 5 - 0 in Round 2 Senior B League action last Monday at the Ice Arena.

Poole handled all 25 shots fired his way to earn the win and move the Hawks up the ladder into a second place tie with the Redwings.

Jacob Thomas led the attack offensively scoring two goals with single tallies coming off the sticks of Simon Knapp, Joel Osborne, and Bradley Rose.

“We rebounded well from our opening 7 -1 loss to the Redwings” said Poole following the win. “I got solid defence all night, in particular from Justine Shaw, and Taylor Ewers. The defence was instrumental in not allowing the Falcons to get any big scoring opportunities on me”.

Poole is a welcome addition to the Blackhawks after drifting away from the sport following his introductory years as a youngster playing inline hockey for the now defunct Northwest Adelaide Wizards several years back. This past summer, he backstopped the Generals to a 20-0 record during the C Grade season, and his addition to the Blackhawks could pay huge dividends come finals time.

“I’m confident that if we play as a team the way we did Monday night against the Falcons, I believe we can beat anyone in our division” Poole remarked. “We still have to face the Tigers, but I feel positive about our potential.”

The Blackhawks outshot the Falcons 27 - 25.
