Ice Hockey Australia won the rights to host the IIHF's World 2011 Division II Group A Championships at the IIHF's 2010 Annual Congress in Cologne, Germany.
The Championships are scheduled to be held at the new Docklands Ice House, Melbourne, Australia from the 03 - 11 April 2011. The participating teams are (in order of ranking): Serbia / Australia / Belgium / New Zealand / Mexico / DPR Korea.
IHA President, Don Rurak, stated:
"It was a close contest against Serbia who also submitted a bid. However, the majority of teams and IIHF Councillors wanted to be the first World Championship ice hockey participants in the Ice House's first historical major international event and vist Australia's sporting capital, the City of Melbourne. With the Ice House being a world class venue, both the teams and Australian fans will be well entertained with 15 exciting games of ice hockey to determine a gold medal winner and promotion to Division I in the 2012."
