The aim of the Coloured Shirt Program is to make all beginner or inexperienced officials easily recognisable therefore educating all participants (including players and spectators) to understand the demands, pressures and support needs of beginner officials. The program aims to increase retention, value and appreciation of all officials.
The Office for Recreation and Sport developed the Coloured Shirt Program based on the successful SANFL “red shirt” program that was introduced to address the issue of umpire retention at the grass roots level.
Our new officials wear green shirts. Please support and respect them through your positive sideline behaviour.
If you see officials and umpires wearing the green shirt, then it’s important for you to know they are beginners. As with any learner, they may make mistakes.
Without officials, sport would not survive, so it is up to our clubs and associations to build a positive culture of support for officials.
Further information can be found on the Office for Recreation & Sport website - http://www.recsport.sa.gov.au/training-support/officials-coloured_shirt.html

Well, we finished our second game of the day. We played Japan and we knew going in that it would be a tough one. They have a very very strong team (skating and physically strong).
We prepped our players the best way we could and it was only 11-0 in the end. That's not bad considering they best a New Zealand team 30 - 0. We were very proud of our kids as there was absolutely NO negativity, no handing heads or sad faces.
They played 110% the whole time, never giving up. We asked them to leave nothing on the ice and play the best they can and that's all we can ask. They are really playing well as a team and it is a nice progression to watch.
Ethan had a great game. Tomorrow is a day off and the players all have their billet families filling their day with fun things. So far, Jenny and I will go with her kids' billets for the day.
Haven't yet confirmed if Jono and David are with us, or with the kids' families. Either way, I am sure we will all have a great day. Too bad it's raining. Well, we meet with the kids Monday morning at 8:00 am.
We have another two tough games but today only made us stronger as a team.

Well, it all started with our pre game team meeting...and two four leafclovers found in the grass by Corey and Ethan. In my life, I think I haveonly picked 2 myself (and I spent a lot of time looking as a kid)! We had agreat pre game meeting, watched a little of the game before us and then cameout strong.
We played Canterbury and came out ahead 4 -0. The day before, Canterbury wasbeaten 30 - 0 by Japan. We are not looking forward to playing them. Mike(Canadian guy coaching Canterbury) asked me if we would be willing to dosomething if the score got out of hand. No problems - we would be willingto swap players- goalies.whatever it takes. But I also told him I thoughtit would be a good game and that wouldn't be an issue. And it was a greatgame. Our kids played very well - still some small things to work on but Ithink they are seeing and improvement even after the first game. Plus theyare having fun and well rested.
Nat scored the first goal from a dump in just inside the zone. Marcel gotthe second with the assist going to Grubbsy. Jordan got the third off arebound and Kate got the 4th on her own. We still have work to do on ourbreak outs as the wingers are not coming back to help the D. We will getthere though - no worries!
We have been mixing the lines here and there experimenting with playercombinations. Depending on the team we play determines how we put thelines. The kids over all are happy with how things are being run.
I asked them today if they were happy with their billet families - all saidyes. I asked if anyone was getting starved or beaten and Mat Gaskin said hewas getting beaten..at mini hockey. Great sense of humour these kids.
Tomorrow morning we play Seoul (Jono and I had a quick look at them today -shouldn't be too bad) but the afternoon game will be tough (AAA Minnesotateam). Weather today was stifling but the next few days are calling forrain.
Have a great day and we will have a great evening (again!!).
